Blog 5b: Science Fair Proposal

1. What is your topic?
Suicidal youth.
2. What is the driving problem behind your experiment and the quote by an expert to support that problem? (Expert citation must be MLA format.)
Suicidal youth is the issue. “Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth between 10 and 19 years of age. However, suicide is preventable. Youth who are contemplating suicide frequently give warning signs of their distress. Parents, teachers, and friends are in a key position to pick up on these signs and get help. Most important is to never take these warning signs lightly or promise to keep them secret. When all adults and students in the school community are committed to making suicide prevention a priority—and are empowered to take the correct actions—we can help youth before they engage in behavior with irreversible consequences.”

3. What is your hypothesis? (Must be in If-Then form.)
If teenagers are frequent users of social media then they are more likely to be depressed and or suicidal.
4. Write a paragraph summary of how you will perform the experiment.  Include the tools you plan on using.
I would look for suicidal graphs/data on the CDC or NIMH in teenagers and then try to find some sort of graph and or data on the rates of poverty and try to find if there is a link between poverty in teenagers and suicide.
5. Select one of the following Project Categories for your experiment:
Behavioral/Social Science

Blog 5a: Science Fair Problem Statement

1.     Child psychology
2.     Autism is a big issue in child development right now. Finding where the source of the problem is coming from and pinpointing who, what, when, where, etc. it’s affecting could be my contribution to society.
3.     Behavioral disorders are another issue in children based on their psychological standpoints. Being able to research about these disorders, fully understanding them, and being able to help out these children in need is my goal.
